About this cam
A ProRail construction webcam over Groningen's main railway station, part of the Groningen Spoorzone programme: an underground pedestrian passage, a bicycle tunnel and parking, a bus underpass and a new bus station, turning Groningen from a dead-end terminus into a through-station.
Groningen Spoorzone is a multi-year renewal of Groningen's main station, run by ProRail for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Province of Groningen, with the municipality, NS and Groningen Bereikbaar. It covers an underground pedestrian passage, a bicycle tunnel linking to new underground bicycle parking, a bus underpass under the tracks, and a new bus station south of the station — plus, at the wider programme level, a fourth track between Groningen and Europapark. Reported budget rose from roughly €270–310 million at earlier estimates to about €365 million as of 2024.
A 64-day full closure of the station (10 May – 12 July 2025) let crews rebuild platforms and complete the bus underpass, reconnecting Groningen as a through-station rather than a terminus — inaugurated 13 July 2025. Bus-station and bicycle-tunnel work continues into subsequent years.
