Sinterklaas Express — Museumspoorlijn STAR

Museumspoorlijn STAR (Stichting Stadskanaal Rail) runs a museum railway between Stadskanaal and Veendam in the province of Groningen, and its Sinterklaas Express is a long-standing tradition. The operator says it has been a tradition for many years that Sinterklaas visits the railway towards the end of November, and that he and his Pieten ride along with the children, parents and grandparents.

The operator invites guests to help Sint and his Pieten and promises a ride that is fun, cosy and also exciting. On the event days the Sinterklaas Express leaves from the station named on the operator's agenda for that day, and the operator publishes a programme for each day. Reservation is compulsory because of limited space, and the children's ticket includes a surprise.

Tickets are bought in the operator's online ticket shop and exchanged at the station counter for a traditional train ticket; the conductor checks and punches it on board. Tickets are also sold at the stations of Stadskanaal and Veendam.

Reservation is compulsory because of limited space.
