Railcam UK runs three cameras at Sheffield Park, the southern terminus and headquarters of the Bluebell Railway — Sheffield Park South, Platform 1 and Platform 2. The station is presented in the LB&SCR "Brighton era of the 1880s" and is where the line's locomotives are shedded, so arrivals, run-rounds and light engine movements all happen in shot.
About this cam
Sheffield Park is watched by three of the eleven cameras the Bluebell Railway publishes across its four stations: Sheffield Park South, Sheffield Park Platform 1 and Sheffield Park Platform 2. The railway states plainly that the feeds are not its own work — "Our web cameras can also be viewed through our partners at Railcam.uk" — and Railcam UK describes itself, in its own words, as "a website, based in the UK, which installs and operates railway-related webcams". Railcam UK Ltd has been running since 2009 as "a company limited by guarantee"; the Bluebell joined it in October 2024, when the railway announced that it was "now part of the growing Railcam UK family". The line the cameras look at is, in the Preservation Society's own phrasing, "the UK's first preserved standard gauge passenger railway". The Bluebell says its "historic line commenced services in August 1960" and today "runs steam trains between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, with stops at Horsted Keynes and Kingscote" across "11 miles of glorious Sussex scenery". Each station is dressed to a different decade: Sheffield Park is "restored to reflect the Brighton era of the 1880s", Horsted Keynes to "the Southern Railway period of the mid-1920s", Kingscote to "the British Railways period of the mid-1950s". Sheffield Park is also the operational heart of the railway — SteamWorks!, described by the railway as "a working locomotive shed", is "located on Platform 1 at Sheffield Park Station" and houses the A1X tank No. 55 'Stepney'. What the cameras show depends heavily on the month, and 2026 is an unusual season. The Bluebell's published timetable carries the notice: "Due to the continued fire risks we will be operating heritage diesel trains until after our Diesel Gala on 4th to 6th September 2026." The locomotive roster page adds: "Until Thursday 3rd September, service trains will be operated by either the 33108 or E6040 (both diesel)." Steam returns to the service after that; the cameras stay on either way.
What to watch for
Sheffield Park is a terminus with a shed attached, so the interesting moves are the ones a through-station never gives you: arrivals into Platform 1 or 2, the run-round, and light engines going on and off shed past the South camera. From the railway's own stock list, the locomotives currently marked "available for service" are LB&SCR A1X 0-6-0T No. 72 'Fenchurch' (1872), the new-built LB&SCR H2 Atlantic No. 32424 'Beachy Head', SER O1-class 0-6-0 No. 65 (1896, rebuilt 1908), Bulleid Battle of Britain Pacific No. 34059 'Sir Archibald Sinclair', BR Standard 5 4-6-0 No. 73082 'Camelot', BR Standard 4 2-6-4T No. 80151, and the visiting GWR Saint 4-6-0 No. 2999 'Lady Of Legend'. On the diesel side, Class 09 shunter D4106 and Class 73/1 electro-diesel E6040 'The Bluebell Railway' are listed as operational, with Class 33 D6570 'Ashford' under overhaul. A1X No. 55 'Stepney' is not out on the line — it is on static display inside SteamWorks! on Platform 1, awaiting overhaul. Several headline machines are in pieces rather than in traffic: Maunsell V-class 4-4-0 No. 928 'Stowe', P-class 0-6-0T No. 323 'Bluebell', SE&CR H-class No. 263 and BR 9F 2-10-0 No. 92240 are all shown as "overhaul in progress", and S15 No. 847 as static display awaiting overhaul.
Best viewing times
The Bluebell's published timetable shows trains running daily through August, September and October 2026. First departure from Sheffield Park is 10:30 or 10:45; the last departure is between 15:00 and 16:35 in August, 15:40–15:45 in September and 15:15 or 16:35 in October (all UK local time). Outside those windows the cameras look at an empty terminus.
