This camera looks southwest from the roof of the Pilgrim Candle factory (36 Union Avenue) over CSX's double-tracked Berkshire Subdivision at Westfield, Massachusetts, near milepost 108. The Westfield River runs to the left of frame; the black truss bridge visible in the distance once carried the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and is now a rail trail.
About 15 to 20 CSX freight trains — general manifest, intermodal, autorack and unit tank trains — pass in a 24-hour period, mostly westbound toward the Selkirk, NY yard or eastbound toward West Springfield, MA. Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited between Boston and Chicago is the only passenger train on this line. A companion camera operated by the same host sits 18 miles west in Chester, MA.
Between Chester and Westfield the line narrows to 14 miles of single track, so a train can occasionally be seen sitting within view of this camera, waiting for a meet.
