Big Sandy is where three Union Pacific subdivisions meet. The former **St. Louis Southwestern** runs north–south: north (then east) to Texarkana via Pittsburg and Mount Pleasant as the **Pine Bluff Subdivision**, and south-west to Corsicana via Tyler as the **Corsicana Subdivision**. Crossing them east–west is the former **Texas & Pacific**, now the **Mineola Subdivision**, which carries Amtrak's Texas Eagle between Dallas and Texarkana by way of Mineola, Longview, Marshall and Jefferson. The directional pattern is worth knowing before you watch. The Pine Bluff Sub is one-directional westbound; the Corsicana Sub is mostly westbound, apart from locals out of Mineola or Tyler; only the Mineola Sub is bi-directional. Big Sandy is also a crew change point, and it sits between the Texas Eagle's stops at Mineola and Longview. The cameras — one fixed view west and one PTZ with chat — have been streaming since 18 August 2020, hosted by the City of Big Sandy.
What to watch for
Union Pacific intermodals, autoracks and manifests, with the junction geometry doing the work: because the Pine Bluff Sub runs westbound only and the Corsicana Sub is mostly westbound, the direction a train takes tells you which former railroad it is following. Crew changes happen here, so expect stopped trains and taxi movements. Amtrak's **Texas Eagle** passes once in each direction between its Mineola and Longview stops.
