About this event

Santa's Enchanted Journey is the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway's Santa special, running in the weeks before Christmas. The operator describes steam-hauled services that depart from and return to Wirksworth station in Derbyshire, with a wide range of activities for children.

At Wirksworth station there are Christmas sing-alongs led by the elves, a wishing tree on the platform, help to send a letter to Santa, reindeer food on sale and a Candy Cane kiosk selling hot drinks, mulled wine, mince pies and hot sandwiches. On board, a baby reindeer puppet, Christmas stories, singing and games are led by the elves, a magic elf looks after Christmas wishes, and Father Christmas delivers presents to all children, with Mrs Claus interacting with guests.

There are two ticket options. Standard gives a seat in an open coach, hot chocolate and cookies for all, a luxury present from Father Christmas and a meeting with Mrs Claus and the elves. Premium adds a private compartment, more time with Father Christmas, Mrs Claus and the elves, a photo with Santa and a luxury gift.

What to expect

A return trip from Wirksworth lasting between 75 and 80 minutes according to the operator's special timetable, with songs, stories and games led by the elves, hot chocolate and cookies, and a present from Father Christmas for each child. Mrs Claus and the elves are on board. Station activities include sing-alongs, a wishing tree and letters to Santa.

All services depart from and return to Wirksworth Station, Station Road, Coldwell Street, Wirksworth DE4 4FB. Tickets are sold by table through the railway's online ticket portal: Premium is a private compartment for six (extra people can be added up to eight), Standard is a table of four or a table of three in an open-style coach, and a child under 12 months can sit on a knee.
