About this event

The Great Central Railway runs the Great Central Santa Express from Loughborough Central Station. Heritage steam trains are transformed with twinkling lights, garlands and seasonal cheer, and the GCR elves and Mrs Claus lead singing, storytelling and festive fun. Each child meets Santa and receives a Christmas gift, along with a Christmas Activity Pack of games, puzzles and colouring sheets and a festive drink and treats.

The train runs across the Charnwood countryside through the decorated period stations of Quorn and Woodhouse and Rothley, with a pause on the Swithland Viaduct. The return journey includes a 25-minute stop at Leicester North Station, with a grotto for photos with Santa, the elves and a tearoom. The train is top and tailed: a steam engine hauls it to Leicester North and a heritage diesel brings it back to Loughborough. Adults receive a complimentary Irish Cream Liqueur and a mince pie.

Premium private compartments for up to eight guests are available, with extended time with Santa, hot chocolates and a keepsake.
