About this event

South Devon Railway runs THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride from Buckfastleigh Station, described by the operator as a fully immersive theatrical experience inspired by the 2004 film. Before boarding, children can post a letter to Santa and find out whether they are on the Nice List using the Elves' scanner. Families are invited to wear their cosiest Christmas pyjamas.

On board, cheerful Chefs greet passengers, lead singing and dancing and serve hot chocolate and a cookie while performing Hot Chocolate from the film. The story by Chris Van Allsburg is read aloud with illustrations displayed, and scenes from the story unfold through the carriage, with a light show. Santa joins the train and gives each passenger a Silver Sleigh Bell, the first gift of Christmas.

The operator says the ride is officially licensed. Ticket holders can visit an exclusive gift shop selling Polar Express merchandise.

What to expect

A theatrical ride with singing Chefs, hot chocolate and a cookie, a story reading, a light show and Santa's Silver Sleigh Bell. The operator notes that its carriages are heritage stock and therefore all differ. Under-2s receive a gift bell and no food or drink.
