About this event

Swanage Railway runs the Father Christmas Yuletide Express from Swanage Station, which is dressed for Christmas for the event. Before boarding, families can have their photo taken inside a giant snow globe and buy seasonal refreshments at the station.

The train makes a one-hour return journey through the Purbeck countryside. On board, a Magic Ticket Collector greets the family and Christmas Elves lead the festive fun, before Father Christmas makes his way through the train to meet each family. Every child receives a Christmas gift, and everyone on board gets a candy cane and chocolate coins. Children can also write a wish and hang it on the Christmas Wishing Tree.

The ticket includes a Freedom of the Line ticket for the other standard services running that day, including an additional steam-hauled service between Swanage, Corfe Castle and Norden (seats on that service are not reserved).

The railway also offers other Christmas experiences as separate tickets: the Christmas Belle, a festive afternoon tea served in the Pullman seats of the Devon Belle, and Christmas Carol Trains, an evening steam journey from Swanage to Corfe Castle.
