Virtual Railfan's cameras at Jonesborough sit at the historic Chuckey Depot Museum, overlooking Norfolk Southern's Knoxville East District — the former Southern Railway main line between Lynchburg, Virginia and Chattanooga by way of Bristol. The depot was moved from Chuckey and restored by the Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society.
About this cam
Virtual Railfan's Jonesborough cameras are located at the historic Chuckey Depot Museum, looking out on Norfolk Southern's Knoxville East District — known to railfans as the A-Line, and to history as the Southern Railway main line between Lynchburg, Virginia and Chattanooga, Tennessee via Bristol. The depot itself has a story: it originally stood at Chuckey, Tennessee, and was relocated and restored as a museum by the Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society & Museum in partnership with the City of Jonesborough. Two cameras are published. The east-facing camera, free and carrying the chat, looks towards Roanoke, Virginia; a west-facing camera pointing at Knoxville is reserved for Virtual Railfan members. Two Norfolk Southern road channels are monitored, 160.950 MHz (AAR 56) and 160.245 MHz (AAR 09), and two Broadcastify feeds cover the A-Line.
What to watch for
The A-Line is a Norfolk Southern through route across the Appalachian grain of east Tennessee — intermodal and manifest, with the operator noting the cameras face opposite ends of the corridor so you can tell direction at a glance: east towards Roanoke, west towards Knoxville. The relocated Chuckey depot in the frame is the reason the location exists, and the operator explicitly invites viewers to come and see Jonesborough, Tennessee's oldest town, in person.
