This camera looks north across BNSF's Cajon Subdivision at Cajon Summit, roughly 1,500 feet west of the summit itself near milepost 56, close to Hesperia, California.
The pass is triple-tracked here: Main 3 is the closest track and the steepest, reaching a maximum grade of 3.4%, which makes it uncommon for uphill trains to use it. Main 2 is the other common downhill track, while Main 1, the farthest from the camera, carries most of the uphill traffic.
The camera is run independently by Todd Santos (RRphotographer), who operates a small network of trackside cameras across BNSF's Cajon Subdivision and Union Pacific's Roseville Subdivision, including a companion camera about 24 track miles east at Victorville.
