Virtual Railfan's Roanoke cameras are hosted by the Virginia Museum of Transportation, the Commonwealth's official transportation museum, housed in the historic Norfolk & Western freight station downtown. This fixed camera looks east across the yard toward the city skyline.
Roanoke is one of Norfolk Southern's most important rail hubs: a major yard, locomotive servicing facilities and the historic Roanoke Shops sit here, and it is the only point on NS's network where the Heartland Corridor and Crescent Corridor intersect, moving intermodal containers, coal, merchandise and local freight. Amtrak's Northeast Regional now stops in Roanoke as well.
