About this event

The Colebrookdale Railroad's ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas is a 90-minute round trip from Boyertown, sold as its own excursion next to the railroad's other Christmas trains. The operator invites passengers to join in their pajamas for a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas aboard its Edwardian-era cars. Rumor has it, the operator says, that Santa himself will appear with a gift for every child, and younger riders can sit with Santa and receive a coloring book from staff during the excursion.

Before boarding, passengers receive complimentary hot cocoa and Christmas cookies in the decorated train yard. No meals are served on this excursion, but the railroad's à la carte snack and beverage menu is available to buy in all cars.

The operator sells three kinds of cars: Coach Class (Deluxe Coach, Valhalla, Woodland and Diplomat); Family Class (Dining Car and Beaver Car), with butler-style table service from the à la carte menu; and First-Class (Parlor and Lounge), reserved for adults aged 13 and over, which includes an hors d'oeuvres plate, dessert and a complimentary beverage. The operator says its cars are heated.

Practical info

Trains leave from and return to Boyertown Station, 64 S. Washington Street, Boyertown, PA 19512. Parking is free in the main lot, and the operator lists a borough lot at 20 E Philadelphia Ave a short walk away. Arrive 30 minutes before departure: tickets are will-call at the station, and the train leaves at its scheduled time. Every passenger needs a ticketed seat, with a child rate and a toddler fee for under 2; seniors have their own fare. First-Class cars are for adults aged 13 and over. Restrooms are in the railyard; onboard restrooms are limited. A bottle of water is allowed but no outside food. Trains run rain or shine. The operator says its ADA-accessible car is under restoration, so it temporarily cannot accommodate some wheelchairs and scooters; tell it in advance if anyone needs help boarding. Only certified service dogs are permitted. The operator suggests booking well in advance because many trains sell out.
