About this event

The Museumseisenbahn Hamm runs a one-day Christmas-market excursion to the Hanseatic town of Lüneburg in its "Wirtschaftswunderzug", a rebuilt 1950s carriage hauled by locomotive 212 079-8, which the operator names as the planned locomotive. The train leaves Hamm at around 8:30 and calls at Neubeckum, Gütersloh, Bielefeld and Herford before running direct to Lüneburg.

The operator says the train is catered: filled rolls, small snacks, sweets, hot and cold drinks, mulled wine and children's punch, with or without alcohol. An optional Eisenbahner breakfast can be booked, and a Christmas mug can be added as an extra.

In Lüneburg the operator points to the Christmas market in the old town, about five minutes' walk from the station, with the largest section at "Am Sande" and further stalls at the town hall, and to the viewing platform of the water tower, 56 metres up.

What to expect

A day trip in a vintage 1950s-style carriage with on-board catering (rolls, snacks, sweets, hot and cold drinks, mulled wine, children's punch) and free time at the Christmas market in Lüneburg's old town, five minutes' walk from the station.

Practical info

The train starts at Hamm Hbf (platform 13) at around 8:30 and calls at Neubeckum, Gütersloh, Bielefeld and Herford. The operator's ticket shop shows planned outward and return times and states that the exact times can still differ. Seats are booked through the operator's ticket shop in first or second class; a family ticket for two adults and two children exists in second class. If you want to bring a dog, the operator asks you to agree this with the organisers in advance.
