About this cam
A road-level crossing at Engenheiro Schmitt, a district of Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Sao Paulo, beside the IPHAN-protected 1912 railway station -- Rumo Logistica freight, including container "double-stack" traffic, works the Tronco Araraquara-Santa Fe do Sul line here.
This camera looks over a gated road crossing at Engenheiro Schmitt, a small district of Sao Jose do Rio Preto in inland Sao Paulo state. The building visible beside the crossing is the Estacao Ferroviaria de Engenheiro Schmitt, opened October 1, 1912 by the Estrada de Ferro Araraquara and named for the German engineer who laid out the line between Taquaritinga and Rio Preto. Regular passenger and freight service ended in 1986; the station was restored and reopened for a heritage tourist train on March 23, 2014, and is protected as a municipal and IPHAN heritage site.
The track itself never stopped working: it is part of the "Tronco Araraquara - Santa Fe do Sul" line (measured at km 218,920 in a 1933 survey), today operated by Rumo Logistica as a freight corridor that connects toward the Ferronorte / North-South Railway grain network. Viewers in this channel's live chat have logged container "double-stack" trains passing here.
What to watch for
Rumo Logistica freight consists -- grain hoppers and container "double-stack" traffic have both been logged by viewers in the live chat -- crossing the gated road next to the restored 1912 station building. The same line continues toward Pindorama (also on Spotatrain's live cams) a short distance north.
