Mirassol, São Paulo — Railway Level Crossing

This camera watches a railway level crossing in Mirassol, Sao Paulo, with striped barrier gates lowering across the street as trains approach. Mirassol sits just outside Sao Jose do Rio Preto, on the freight corridor logistics operator Rumo runs through the region.

Local newspaper Diario da Regiao has reported around two dozen freight trains, some 120 cars long, crossing the urban Rio Preto area daily, carrying soy, wheat, sugar bran and fuel for the agribusiness trade -- traffic that also passes through neighbouring Mirassol. Rumo has been carrying out overpass and footbridge works in Rio Preto, Cedral and Mirassol specifically to reduce conflict between the railway and road traffic at crossings like this one.
