Railcam UK runs three cameras at Banbury station in Oxfordshire: a station view looking north-west, a passing view over the running lines, and a south view over the southern approach and the sidings. One of the three is put on free public showcase on Railcam's own YouTube channel and is rotated periodically.

About this cam

Banbury is covered by three Railcam UK cameras, which the operator describes in its own words as "Camera 1 : Station view (looking North West)", "Camera 2 : Passing view (looking North East at the running lines)" and "Camera 3 : South view (looking South East at the the southern approach and sidings)". Railcam states that the installation is "kindly hosted for us by Frostechnic Ltd" and signs every frame "© Railcam UK Limited. In association with Frostechnic Ltd." The free stream on Railcam's YouTube channel is a showcase rather than a fixed camera: the operator writes that it is "a showcase, for a limited time only and the camera shown here will be changed periodically". At the time of checking it was carrying the south view, labelled on screen as Banbury Cam2b. All three cameras are watchable in full on railcam.uk, where they sit at Supporter level; the same site also lists a "Banbury Free Stream". The view takes in several running lines with pointwork, colour-light signalling, a station footbridge and canopy in the middle distance, and lineside signage pointing to Banbury LMD, the light maintenance depot at the south end of the station.

What to watch for

The southern approach is where the interest is: the running lines converge through pointwork under colour-light signals, with the sidings and the access to Banbury LMD off to the right of frame. Railcam's own footage from this location shows heavy freight — the operator published a clip of Heavy Haul Rail 59001, repainted into its original livery, "seen here passing Banbury". Because the free YouTube feed is a rotating showcase, the angle changes from time to time between the station view, the passing view over the running lines and the south view; the on-screen label (for example "Banbury Cam2b") tells you which one you have.
