Washington, D.C. — Union Station Approach, Northeast Corridor

Capitol Rail Watch is a one-person railfan operation, not an institution: the channel publishes no website, no support page and no contact address, and its only self-description is the About text and the stream's own caption. It describes itself as "a live window into one of the busiest rail corridors in the United States", and places its camera "Overlooking the approach to Washington, DC's Union Station" — the approach, not the concourse.

What that approach carries is unusually dense for a single frame. The operator lists, in its own words, "Amtrak Acela & Northeast Regional, MARC commuter trains, Washington Metro Red Line, Freight and special movements". The Metro is the detail that gives the view away: north of Union Station the Red Line is not in tunnel. The entry for NoMa–Gallaudet U, the first Red Line station north of Union Station, states that "It is located on the same embankment as the Amtrak tracks into Union Station" — which is why heavy rail and rapid transit can appear side by side here and almost nowhere else on the corridor.

The stream caption sets the composition: viewers "Watch trains arrive and depart with the U.S. Capitol Dome in the background", so the camera looks south, down the corridor and past the station towards the Capitol. The operator advertises it as a "Live 24/7 Railcam" covering "Day and night train traffic", and the stream description promises everything "From early morning commuter rush to late-night train movements".

One caution belongs on the record: the operator never says where the camera physically sits. No address, no building, no rooftop or window statement, no map link. The vantage is elevated over a rail embankment, and the Railfan Guide to Washington DC notes that on this side of the station "the track level on the north side is above street level, [so] there are really no good vantage points except for New York Ave." This camera is therefore published with no coordinates, deliberately.
