About this event

The Museumstoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik runs steam trams on the old Hoorn to Medemblik line in North Holland. Its Pieten Expres is the operator's Sinterklaas ride, held in the weeks when Sinterklaas is in the country.

The ride starts at the tram station in Hoorn. Steam from the locomotive warms the carriages, and the operator says the Pieten make the journey lively on board. The tram runs to Wognum, where the Pieten take the passengers to the SinterCircus and everyone visits Sinterklaas. The operator says Sinterklaas has a small present for every child up to and including age 12 before the tram returns to Hoorn.

The operator sells the Pieten Expres as its own e-ticket item. It also announces a separate low-stimulus (prikkelarm) version of the ride on its own page, which is a different product.

What to expect

A ride of about two hours. You board at the tram station in Hoorn, travel by steam tram to Wognum with the Pieten on board, visit the SinterCircus and Sinterklaas at Wognum, then ride back to Hoorn. Every child up to and including age 12 receives a present from Sinterklaas.

Practical info

Boarding is at the Museumstoomtram's tram station, Van Dedemstraat 8, 1624 NN Hoorn. The operator says that for special themed rides, including the Sinterklaas rides, even individual travellers must reserve; e-tickets are sold in the operator's online ticket shop. Special rides carry a surcharge compared with the regular fares. The museum is smoke-free, including the trams. Questions: info@stoomtram.nl or +31 229 255 255 on weekdays.
