Virtual Railfan's Davisville camera looks out on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor at milepost 168.25, in the North Kingstown area of Rhode Island. This is one of the segments where the Acela is permitted its full 150 mph, which makes it a very different kind of watching from a freight main line — trains arrive and are gone in seconds. The operator gives the distances that place it on the corridor: 60 miles from Boston, 96 from New Haven, and 168 from New York City. Tracks 1 and 2 carry Amtrak and MBTA commuter service; track 4 handles freight from the Providence & Worcester Railroad running to and from the Davisville Rail Yard. Seaview Transportation Company operates the yard and the trackage at Quonset Point, serving port and industrial customers. The stream has run since 30 October 2017. The host, unusually for a Virtual Railfan location, is a private residence.
What to watch for
Acela at 150 mph is the reason to be here, and it is genuinely fast — the corridor's catenary and constant-tension wire are visible above the tracks in every frame. Between the high-speed runs come Amtrak Northeast Regionals and MBTA commuter sets on tracks 1 and 2. The freight is the local curiosity: Providence & Worcester movements on track 4, serving the Davisville yard and the port industries at Quonset Point, which is the sort of traffic most Northeast Corridor cameras never show. Four radio channels are monitored, including Amtrak Road on 161.010, P&W on 160.650 and MBTA Commuter Rail on 160.920.
