Hiroshima — Hakushima Station, Astram Line

What the camera shows

Ueno Gakuen Hall (the Hiroshima Prefectural Cultural Arts Hall) operates this information camera from its own building in Hakushima Kitamachi, Naka-ku, about a two-minute walk from Hakushima Station's west exit. The captured frame shows the elevated concrete guideway and platform structure of the Astram Line (officially the Hiroshima Rapid Transit Line, operated by Hiroshima Rapid Transit Co., Ltd.), an automated rubber-tired transit system, with a train visible on the viaduct.

The line and the station

Hakushima Station is the Astram Line's terminus at the north end of central Hiroshima. It sits beside Shin-Hakushima Station, a separate transfer point to JR West's Kabe Line -- the two stations are connected by a short walkway, a common point of confusion the operator's own promotional material addresses ("How to walk from JR Shin-Hakushima Station"). The camera's own title names only "Hakushima Station side" (白島駅側); the hall runs a second information camera facing the opposite direction, toward the Honkawa river and Kitaohashi bridge.
