Goathland Straight — North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Goathland is the moorland village the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is best known for, and this camera is set lineside rather than at the platform: the operator's own caption reads "Lineside before the road bridge looking towards Pickering." The view faces south, away from the village, catching trains running at speed rather than standing at the station.

The section immediately to the north, between Goathland and Grosmont, climbs at a ruling gradient of 1 in 49 — the steepest working on the NYMR, in the operator's own words. A southbound train passing this camera has just come off that climb; a northbound one is about to start it.
