About this cam
This camera at Saint Paul's historic Union Depot overlooks the Mississippi River and the tracks used by Amtrak's Empire Builder, with freight trains also passing through Lowertown.
Union Depot is Saint Paul's restored 1920s train station in the Lowertown neighborhood, today serving Amtrak's long-distance Empire Builder (Chicago–Seattle/Portland) as well as local transit. This camera, one of two hosted by Union Depot itself, looks out over the Mississippi River and the tracks that carry the Empire Builder through the city.
According to Union Depot, freight rail trains can also be observed traveling along this same route, alongside the passenger service — a reminder that the Lowertown riverfront remains a working railroad corridor, not just a historic terminal.
