About this cam
A community-run camera at the Polk Street crossing at Hughes Street in Houston's East End, on Union Pacific's East Belt. The Eastwood Civic Association's volunteers run it, with UP Art Studio as sponsor, so pedestrians, cyclists and METRO riders can see when parked trains are blocking the crossing.
This camera watches the Polk Street grade crossing at Hughes Street (FRA crossing 288039B) on Union Pacific's Houston East Belt Subdivision, beside a large multi-storey warehouse. The Eastwood Civic Association, a neighbourhood organization in Houston's East End, describes it as a web cam "run by Eastwood volunteers to assist pedestrians, cyclists, and METRO riders who are constantly blocked by parked trains", and credits UP Art Studio as the camera's sponsor.
The association calls it a major crossing for buses reaching the METRO Polk Street Transit Operations Facility and METRO Houston's Route 50 (Broadway) between Hobby Airport and the Eastwood Transit Center, and links the FRA's blocked-crossing reporting page from the stream description. It is the third Eastwood camera, after the Harrisburg Boulevard and Leeland at Cullen views.
What to watch for
Union Pacific trains on the two tracks at the Polk Street crossing, and especially trains stopped across the road, with buses, cyclists and pedestrians waiting.
