A live view of the Mount Washington Cog Railway's Base Station in Marshfield, New Hampshire, where biodiesel and steam locomotives depart up the rack-and-pinion track toward the summit.
This camera overlooks the Mount Washington Cog Railway's Base Station in Marshfield, on the south side of Mount Washington, New Hampshire, at roughly 2,700 feet elevation and about 6 miles east of Route 302, near the Bretton Woods ski resort.
The stream is run by the Mount Washington Cog Railway itself, the operator of the line — not the separate Mount Washington Observatory, which runs its own, differently-framed "Cog Railway Track Cam" elsewhere on Spotatrain. In the channel's own words: "Bio-diesels are leaving every hour from 9 AM - 3 PM and our steam trains are going up at 9 AM and 3:30 PM."
Opened in 1868-69, the Cog Railway was the world's first mountain-climbing rack railway, built by Sylvester Marsh using the rack-and-pinion system that still carries trains to the 6,288-foot summit today.
