About this event

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway runs The Elf Explorer as its family Christmas adventure, starting at Oxenhope Station. Families collect their golden tickets at the check-in desk, visit the badge fairies' house, and children can write letters to Father Christmas and enjoy festive activities. Before boarding there is a 20-minute interactive Elf Show in the Exhibition Hall, with singing, dancing and audience participation.

Once on board a steam train, a team of singing and dancing elves continues the story for the next hour. Children receive juice and chocolate coins, adults can enjoy mulled wine and a mince pie, and Father Christmas visits every family; each child receives a gift. The train then returns to Oxenhope.

The railway also lists other Christmas offers: A Christmas Carol, a live theatre and steam experience; Christmas Dining at The Old Parcels Office; the Mince Pie Specials; a Carol Service Train; and festive steam days.

What to expect

A 20-minute elf show, then an hour of storytelling, songs and Father Christmas's visit on a steam train; children get a gift, juice and chocolate coins. The operator advises collecting the correct age sticker for each child's gift when checking in.
