Pendre Yard, Talyllyn Railway

Pendre station and yard sit 0.42 miles (0.68 km) from Tywyn Wharf, the western terminus of the 2ft 3in (686 mm) narrow-gauge Talyllyn Railway in Gwynedd, mid-Wales. The site has housed the railway's locomotive shed, carriage sheds and engineering works since the line opened in 1866, and passenger trains still call there by request only (Pendre is not a normal advertised stop).

The Talyllyn Railway itself was the original line built to carry slate from the Bryn Eglwys quarry down to Tywyn Wharf. It closed as a working slate railway in the early 1950s and was taken over in 1951 by the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society — the world's first railway saved by a volunteer preservation society, and the inspiration behind the Rev. W. Awdry's Railway Series (the Skarloey Railway).
